Look Up at the Sky Day 14th april – mindful exercise

Do you know that today ia a Look up at the sky day? It’s a fun holiday, which can actually make us have a new activity. This day was created to motivate us to look at the world from a different perspective. For me sky is a metaphor that we cannot take things for granted, I think many realizes that during a corona crisis.

Well, when did you last time looked at the sky mindfully? In the current situation, when we don’t have so much connection with nature and outside world, sky can be our solution.

Ancient civilisations used sky for guidance, connecting with gods, forecasting the weather. What are you using the sky for? If you don’t appreciate this mysterious nature ceiling, I recommend you to celebrate this Look at the sky day and go out, even on your balcony and look (well you can even look at the sky from the window, if going out is not an option). Maybe you can get some ideas? Maybe you can just mindfully look and let your mind relax? Maybe you can have an incubation time?

Just look and dream.

Just look and think.

Just look and create.

Let your mind wander…

My piece of peace…at my parents backyard.

Mindful looking at the sky

  1. Sit comfortably and correct your posture.
  2. Check up on your body. Those are questions which you can ask yourself for this check up:
  • How am I feeling ?
  • Are there any tensions ? *(you can scan your body for this check up)
  • What do I notice in my body?
  • How is my breath right now?
  • What does my body need right now?
  • What are my thoughts ?

3. Then just look up and let your mind wander .

You can use your favorite music, adjusted to your mood, I like THIS mix of classical music.

You can also set an alarm clock, this can help you just to focus on looking at the sky and relaxing. The point is just to look and let your mind wander. Whatever comes to your mind just accept it and look at it from a observer perspective.

Mindful sky watching for creativity and incubation time

This exercise can be especially helpful if you have been studying and working and you need to rest and refresh your mind. When you let your mind wander and you don’t control your thoughts, there is an incubation time happening. During this time the neurons are connecting the dots and your brain can give you new ideas. It’s a part of a creative process which you can boost by this exercise.

P.S. You can have a notebook and pen near by in case of new ideas popping up. If it’s happening, just write them down, without further analysis.

Have you ever watched the sky for relaxation and creativity boost?
