Mindful singing- let me tell you more about it :)

As I told you in the FAQ section mindful singing is my method of teaching singing which I have been working on and testing last years. I gathered all my knowledge about singing gained through my singing coaches, all the music camps, courses and workshops. Even though I have been singing whole my life I still felt that I am limiting my voice in some way. I felt that all the workshops, all the videos are repeating the knowledge which I already gained but I still felt that something is wrong.

Therefore I started taking a holistic approach to singing.

I realized that when my students are unfocused or stressed during the lesson the results are much worse than when they pay full attention and when they relax. Even if the lesson it itself is not stressful, the stress from the day stays in us, it strains our muscles and in consequence we cannot get the best result. How could I unstress the person during a lesson and at the same do all the warm up exercises and practice the song? The answer was mindfulness and yoga! I started applying simple yoga exercises which were also focused on the parts in our body which we strain the most, so shoulders, neck, upper back, and hands. Moreover, I created some stretching exercises which help to activate the muscles around diaphram and the lower back. First I tested it myself and I could really feel the difference. After a short stretching, especially when I practiced singing in the evening, after the whole day of activities, I could feel the release and ease in my voice.

Of course short yoga was just the beginning of the warm up, I also had to focus better. Therefore I listened guided meditations to relax and get focused.

That was helping me a lot. A moment when you allow yourself just to follow one voice and let the thoughts and worries fly away is something what everyone should allow him/herself at least once a day.

After testing on myself, I decided to share it with others. I didn’t use ready guided meditations from the internet, first of all because I didn’t feel true to used somebody else meditations for my lessons and second of all – they were not adjusted to my lesson.

I started creating guided meditations adjusted to the persons level of singing, to the psychological struggels connected to singing and all other factors which I got to know about from the talk with a student

It’s an exciting journey cause I never repeat the same meditation. They are shorter and longer and every time before I start my mindful singing class, I have a chat with student about the aim for the lesson and the struggles with singing (and it often goes to the personal ones 🙂 Then I adjust my meditation to the current situation, so we can get the best possible results!

Have you ever tried applying meditation before your singing warm up? What do you think about it? Share it below! 🙂

  1. Thank you for every one of your work on this blog. My aunt delights in getting into investigation and it’s really easy to understand why. Most people learn all concerning the compelling means you produce useful tricks on this website and therefore foster contribution from some other people on the subject so our own child has been studying a whole lot. Have fun with the rest of the new year. You’re the one carrying out a brilliant job.
