Resolutions and buidling creative confidence

New Year, New Year’s resolutions’s and one of them is opening this blog – well, this post I wrote already more than one year ago…You can see, that’s how our resolutions work, sometimes they come true with delay, or let’s say – some are like wine – they need to matue.

The most important is that I keep working on something what I am passionate about and I am in complete flow every day! This is the sign I am on the right track!

As I said some things need to grow, I also needed to figure out what I want and what I will be talking about in this blog. I had so many ideas and so many side projects going on that I couldn’t decided what to focus on.

I have been analysing my little and bigger glories and even my failure and how I tackled them and I realised that the concept of creative confidence was really helping me on the way!

What is creative confidence then?

Creative confidence is a deep belief that you achieve everything whatever you set the goal for. Even if it’s your idea seems crazy at first. Even if you could not sing but you always dreamt about it and deep inside you believe that you can learn singing.

Trust me, even if somebody told you were tone-deaf, you can learn to sing. Of course it will take time, patience, hard work and commitment. Creative confidence will give you the belief that you can do it anyway.

Great example of creative confidence is my singing student. He was one of the worst singing person who I ever heard, but he wanted to join my choir, cause he loved the community around it and the idea of music connecting people. His engagement, excitement, patience plus my support and belief made him SING. After as little as a few months he was attending concerts and doing quite fine (he still had his moments of singing out of tune, but he was already well aware of that:).

  • To conclude creative confidence is:
  • Positive approach to your own abilities and learning abilities,
  • Easiness to go out of your comfort zone,
  • Having distnace to yourself,
  • Ability to accept the failures and get rid of the fear of failure,
  • Belief that our brain has huge resources that we can learn whatever we strive for, with hard work, engagement, positive thinking and commitment.
  • Creative approach to problems. Problem occured? There is a challenge to solve and opportunity to learn!

I have to tell you honestly that those things don’t come quickly, well – they “don’t come”. You have to work on them and build your creative confidence. You also have to work on it to maintain it in you. I had to build creative confidence in me through many years. There were years when I was practicing it and I really felt that it helps me to live in different countries, to be around different cultures, adjust to new environments and manage life on my own. Then when I finished my studies and I had to look for the “real” job, I felt that this creative confidence is fading away. It didn’t feel good for an ambitious, young woman to look for a job and face rejections. It was even harder cause back then I didn’t feel comfortable with Danish. I realised that I started avoiding networking meetings or events where I had to use Danish.

Then I realised – it’s totally normal to feel less confident when we start doing something new! We simply don’t know as much about it to feel confident. It can be hard for ambitious, perfectionist youngsters, I know it can.

We just need to accept and acknowledge the nature of beginning and learn from the failures.Try to laugh at them, build the distance to yourself and have fun from the process!

It can really help you on the way. The more you practice going out of your comfort zone, having a different approach to your problems, laughing at them,  the more it helps you to nurture creatiive confidence in you!

It is normal to have the fear of unknown and the more challenges you take, the easier it gets to approach them and go through the hard beginning.

P.S. Just don’t take too many challenges at once on your shoulders- this is not

healthy!

What are your challenges for the rest of this year? Maybe you still have some New Year’s resolutions to be accomplished? Let me know in the comment!
